Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy

Myofunctional therapy is a remedial program specifically designed to correct tongue thrust problems, due to habitual thumb sucking, open mouth posture, short lingual frenum, allergies, nasal congestion, as well as enlarged adenoids and/or tonsils. Tongue thrusting and improper tongue postural positions have been recognized since the inception of orthodontics. Untreated tongue thrusts can result in slowing and relapses of orthodontic treatment, temporomandibular joint problems, sleep problems as well as speech problems. Our therapists are trained in myofunctional techniques to synchronize the muscles associated with swallowing and posturing of the tongue, lips, and jaw.
